Volunteer at the Salvation Army Belkin House with Company of Young Professionals
Giving back to the Greater Vancouver community is an important aspect of our Company of Young Professionals (CYP) program.
Four times per year, the CYP team organizes an outreach initiative to address an important issue in the community. Participating in one of these outreach initiatives is also a great way to connect with other CYP members in a more casual environment while learning about the work that local non-profit/charities are doing in the neighbourhood.
About the next initiative:
The Salvation Army's Belkin House has invited CYP Member to help prepare and serve dinner to Vancouver's marginalized and homeless population.
Belkin House is a residential program facility in the heart of Vancouver. The facility opened its doors 50 years ago and exists to assist the homeless and those at risk of homelessness to become self-sufficient and independent through the reduction of physical, emotional, social and spiritual barriers.
What to expect:
The afternoon will start with a brief orientation, in which Belkin House staff will go over safety rules, housekeeping items, and duties you will be participating in during your volunteer hours. You will then be directed to assist in the preparation and service of dinner. Prior to the public serving of dinner, the group will have the opportunity to share a meal.
What do I wear and where do I park?
All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. You can park on any side streets surrounding the building.
