Vancouver Businesses Rally to Save the Whitecaps

May 4, 2026

VANCOUVER, B.C. — The city’s business community has released the following open letter declaring its commitment to help close the revenue gap so the Vancouver Whitecaps can remain where they belong:

“For more than 50 years the Vancouver Whitecaps have called our great city home, and that is how it should remain. The ‘Caps are a storied club and a pillar of the community, and we, the undersigned declare our support and commitment to contribute and help find ways to close the existing revenue gap to ensure that the ‘Caps continue to play in Vancouver.

Beyond the joy and pride that they bring to this city, the Whitecaps are also critical to the local economy, with each season bringing hundreds of thousands of fans to the downtown core. Their absence would reverberate far beyond the vibrancy they create on matchdays. From celebrating our diversity, creating spaces for the sport to grow, and giving children across the province accessible pathways to professionalism.

The business community stands firmly behind the team. We urge all parties involved to come to the table and do the work required to find a made-in-Vancouver solution that keeps the Whitecaps where they belong.”

Why is the business community issuing this open letter now?

The Vancouver Whitecaps are a vital cultural and economic engine for our city. We want the club to stay in the city. Our goal is to signal to all stakeholders that the private sector is committed to finding ways to ensure the club is financially viable.

What does it mean for a business to "sign on" to this letter?

Signing on is a meaningful declaration of intent to support the club’s financial health. It signifies that a business is committed to exploring ways to help close the revenue gap, whether through corporate sponsorships, official partnerships, group ticket packages, or other creative commercial avenues. While the commitment is open-ended to allow for different levels of involvement, the core message is clear, businesses are willing to work with the club to ensure the 'Caps remain viable in Vancouver. Each signatory will be connected with the Whitecaps to discuss available options.

How do the Whitecaps impact the local Vancouver economy?

The impact is significant and multifaceted. Beyond the direct jobs created by the club, each season draws hundreds of thousands of fans into the downtown area. This foot traffic supports local hospitality, retail, and transit sectors. Furthermore, the club’s youth academies and community programs provide accessible pathways for athletes across British Columbia, fostering a sports ecosystem that benefits the entire province.

Who can join this initiative?

We invite any business, from local restaurants and retail to major corporations, that believes in the importance of the Whitecaps to Vancouver’s identity. By standing together, we show that the business community is not just a spectator, but a partner in the club's future success.
