GVBOT responds to Broadway bike lane options
For Immediate Release

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, released the following statement in response to the City of Vancouver’s report on transportation options for Broadway:
“The Broadway Corridor is a vital east/west connector that carries commuters, transit, and commercial traffic throughout our city. It would be very misguided to take away an additional lane from Broadway as it would create major congestion for trucks, cars, transit, emergency vehicles and traffic generally.
We support the original Broadway plan design, developed through public engagement, which prioritized more space for patios and other public spaces, as well as pedestrians, rather than duplicating nearby parallel cycling infrastructure along 10th Avenue and on the north side of Broadway. This is the best way to improve Broadway for businesses and residents.
The Broadway Corridor has enormous potential for the future of our city, as a growing hub for jobs and a place more Vancouverites can live. Constraining mobility through the corridor would prevent this area from achieving its full potential.
The Broadway Subway is slated to open in 2026 and more and more people want to call Vancouver home. We must ensure that we are developing enough housing to fill the need and making the right transportation decisions to support our growth.”
