GVBOT welcomes focus on internal trade
For Immediate Release
VANCOUVER, B.C. — In response to the introduction of BILL 7 – 2025 ECONOMIC STABILIZATION (TARIFF RESPONSE) ACT, Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, has issued the following statement:
“British Columbia must act to counter the negative impacts of the trade war with the United States. Bill 7’s focus on enabling the removal internal trade barriers is a very welcome step that, if fully implemented, will strengthen our economic security, boost productivity, and generate new revenues for government.
“We call on all provincial governments to act swiftly in removing internal trade barriers and unlocking labour mobility across the country. As outlined in our report Unleashing local trade & production within Canada, eliminating internal trade barriers could increase our national real GDP by 3.8%, translating to a $2,130 increase per person and a higher quality of life for all Canadians.
“At a time of stalled economic growth, low private sector investment, high cost of living, and rising costs of doing business, all levels of government must be laser focused on policies that grow our economy, attract investments, and create well-paying local jobs.”
