Join us as senior staff from the City of Vancouver and City of Surrey outline their joint proposal for Infrastructure Canada's $50-million prize in the Smart Cities Challenge, followed by a panel discussion with Mayor Doug McCallum and Mayor Kennedy Stewart on the importance of collaborative smart city building.

Vancouver and Surrey's #SmarterTogether program is a bold vision to create Canada's first two collision free multi-modal corridors. Last year, Vancouver and Surrey jointly responded to Infrastructure Canada's Smart Cities Challenge with an ambitious initial proposal aimed at demonstrating how data and technology can lead to positive community outcomes. The #SmarterTogether program is the result of unprecedented joint engagement and community collaboration. We spoke with residents, experts, and leaders of communities to explore how the corridors could be designed to be appealing and accessible to all. The cities arranged corridor technology demonstrations, including autonomous vehicle shuttle ride demos in Vancouver and Surrey that provided over 4,000 passenger rides to residents who are enthusiastic about the technology's promise.

Come hear about our journey and how the cities will introduce a suite of smart city technologies that will transform city infrastructure and establish new, connected ways for residents to travel safely, connect socially, and enjoy an increased quality of life. Mayor Stewart and Mayor McCallum will speak to our two cities' unique urban context and how we can achieve many of our city building goals through collaboration, innovation, and smart technology solutions.

The #SmarterTogether program is ambitious and achievable. It is not a call for incremental progress. It is an opportunity to fundamentally transform our cities' infrastructure in a way that will save lives, improve quality of life, and provide a replicable model for Canadian cities that wish to bring the same outcomes to their communities.
