In a rapidly changing world, interconnected urban centres — not just individual municipalities — are where national debates on the future connect, as local and regional governments are increasingly recognized as playing a critical role in facilitating dialogue between citizens and institutions and providing much-needed services in support of a strong, sustainable and prosperous economy.

Join Metro Vancouver Chair Greg Moore for his annual address to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade as he outlines his priorities as Chair for 2017.

Mayor Moore will discuss the importance of interconnected urban centres and the role of local governments to facilitate dialogue between citizens and institutions, in support of a strong, sustainable, and prosperous economy.

He will also discuss how regional collaboration is driving change in important areas such as the Regional Prosperity Initiative, Metro 2040, the Industrial Lands Strategy, Affordable Rental Housing Strategy, National Zero Waste Council and many others.

About the speaker:

Greg Moore is the Mayor of the City of Port Coquitlam and has been the Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors since 2012. His many accomplishments in public life include the development of a 10-year, $7.5 billion Metro Mayors Transit Plan for the Metro Vancouver region that translates a long-term vision for transit into practical and equitable solutions, and the creation of the National Zero Waste Council, a cross-sector leadership initiative that brings together governments, business, and NGOs to advance a national waste prevention and reduction agenda in Canada and beyond.

Moore is also involved in a number of charitable causes in his home town of Port Coquitlam, including the "Homes for Good Society", a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to end chronic homelessness by securing excess housing capacity from existing inventory, and "I Am Someone", a society dedicated to ending bullying through community awareness and support, technology, and advocacy.
